Past Presidents

The Essendonians unofficially started up in the mid 1950’s and were the only group offering support the Essendon Football Club at the time.

This was all unofficial, and the group used to meet in various venues such as the Essendon Club, and would discuss ways of assisting the club and players. Patrons offered monetary and other support including providing employment for players, assisting with house for players, securing suitable board and lodging, etc. The sole purpose of the Essendonians was to provide this support.

This unofficial group of patrons operated up until 1960 when The Essendonians elected as President Major General Simpson and Dr G Grove as secretary.

At that time, the Essendon Football Club provided a small area at the back of the stand for The Essendonians to hold their meetings. Billie Cookson was Secretary of the Football Club at the time.

Since then we have elected 12 Presidents. In 2006, the committee agreed that the constitution  recognizes the term held by a President from this point on, will be a three (3) year term.
